Trying to escape the haunting grief of a great tragedy, Eve returns to the homeland of her parents and finds Scotland in the late 1700s bitter and reeling under Britain’s punitive laws. How can Eve hope to find healing for her own broken heart in the midst of a broken nation?
Fumbling toward a growing knowledge of God, Eve is thrust into the danger and intrigue of Scotland’s resistance movement. Eve is overwhelmed by the decisions she is forced to make. Can she know what God wants her to do and find the courage to act? Can she navigate the labyrinthine memories and mystery of her parents’ lives and their places in the country she is beginning to call home? What is her place and obligation in all this?
The broken past, her broken heart, and the broken nation are irrevocably intertwined. If Eve is to find healing and learn to love again, it might be the beginning of healing for all involved.
